Privacy Policy for NexDrop
Last Updated: 2026-01-23
NexDrop ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our application collects, uses, and safeguards your information. NexDrop is designed as a local peer-to-peer (P2P) file transfer tool and prioritizes user privacy by minimizing data collection.
1. Information We Collect
NexDrop operates primarily offline using local peer-to-peer technologies. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any external servers. The data processed by the app remains on your device or is transferred directly to the device you choose to connect with.
A. Permissions We Request
To function correctly, NexDrop requires the following permissions:
-
Nearby Devices (Bluetooth & Wi-Fi):
Why: To discover and connect to nearby devices using the Google Nearby Connections API.
Usage: Used strictly for establishing a local connection to transfer files. We do not use Bluetooth for tracking your location.
-
Location (Coarse/Fine):
Why: Until Android 12, Google requires Location permission to use Bluetooth scanning features.
Usage: Used only to enable Bluetooth discovery. We do not track, store, or share your GPS location.
-
Storage / All Files Access:
Why: To allow you to select files (photos, videos, documents, APKs) to send and to save received files to your device's "Downloads" folder.
Usage: We only access the files you explicitly select to share and the folder where received files are stored. We do not scan your device content unauthorized.
-
Camera:
Why: To scan QR codes for quick device pairing.
Usage: The camera feed is processed locally in real-time to detect QR codes and is never recorded or sent to any server.
-
Contacts (Optional):
Why: Used solely for the "Phone Clone" feature to transfer your contacts to your new device.
Usage: Accessed only when you initiate the backup process. Contacts are converted to a standard VCF file and transferred directly to the target device. We do not upload your contacts anywhere.
-
Installed Apps (Query All Packages):
Why: To list your installed applications so you can share their APK files with another device.
Usage: The list is generated locally and displayed only to you.
2. How We Use Your Data
- File Transfer: Files are transferred directly between devices using encryption provided by the Google Nearby Connections API. No intermediate server is used.
- Device Visibility: Your "Device Name" (which you set in Settings) is broadcast to nearby devices only when you actively use the app (Sender or Receiver mode).
3. Data Safety & Security
- Local Transfer: All transfers occur over a secure local connection (Wi-Fi Direct / Local Hotspot). Your files never touch the internet.
- No Cloud Storage: We do not have cloud servers. We do not have access to your files or transfer history.
- Encryption: The connection established between devices is encrypted to prevent eavesdropping by third parties.
4. Third-Party Services
NexDrop uses the following third-party libraries for functionality:
- Google Nearby Connections API: For P2P connectivity.
- Google ML Kit / ZXing: For QR code scanning.
These services are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
5. Children's Privacy
NexDrop does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
6. Changes to This Policy
